Refuge Information Featuring 11,000 acres of outdoor recreation opportunities, Hagerman NWR is the largest natural space in North Texas freely available to the public. It is an excellent destination for Birding, Hiking, Wildlife Viewing, Fishing, Boating and regulated Hunting. Like many national wildlife refuges, Hagerman NWR has a very active Friends organization who offer a variety of nature-themed, family-friendly Events, Tram Tours of the refuge, Seminars and Field Trips for schools, scouts and other groups. In addition, the Photo Club hosts informative meetings, seminars and field trips.

Adopt-A-Goose and Adopt-A-Goose Field Exceed Our 2025 Goal – Help Us Launch 2026!
Snow and Ross's Geese by Adam Graham The Friends of Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge (FoH) is pleased to announce that the 2025 Adopt-a-Goose and Adopt-a-Goose Field fundraisers not only met but exceeded expectations in by raising $10,550! We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone for their generous donations to Adopt-a-Goose and Adopt-a-Goose Field sponsors in 2025. All 20 targeted fields (totaling 243 acres) were adopted, raising $7,290. Additional contributions to Adopt-a-Goose generated $3,260 in donations. This past fall and winter, as many as 8,000 Snow and Ross's Geese were counted on the refuge at one time—a testament to the impact of your support. Unfortunately, the budget for Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge has not improved since last year. As a result, FoH is now kicking off the 2026 Adopt-a-Goose and Adopt-a-Goose Field fundraisers to ensure that winter wheat can be planted again in fall 2026. These funds will be used to purchase winter wheat seed needed to plant the 243 acres and, as needed, defray other planting costs. Unexpectedly, one of the two seed drills used last year has become inoperable and must be repaired or replaced, as two drills are essential to plant the field in the narrow available timeframe. If you have not visited the refuge to see the geese, you will need to wait until this fall. Beginning in November, Snow and Ross's Geese will return from their Arctic breeding grounds, once again filling Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge for the winter, and numerous visitors travel to Hagerman to see and photograph this impressive sight. Your donation helps ensure these birds have the critical food resources they need. Please consider making a donation to support the Adopt-a-Goose and Adopt-a-Goose Field programs and help provide this essential food source for migrating Snow Geese and Ross’s Geese later this year. |
