Agenda for June 5, Wednesday

  • Meet at 7:30 am at the WMWR Visitor Center. We will board the tour bus and be driven to areas on the refuge to get off the bus and take photographs.
  • We will stop at a shaded picnic area on the refuge to have an early brunch/lunch. Restrooms will be at the picnic area. Please bring a cooler with water, snacks, lunch for yourself.
  • Plan to be on the tour for the entire morning. The bus tour will end at the WMWR Visitor Center.
  • Group dinner at 5:30 pm at Ann's Country Kitchen, 26020 State Highway 58, Lawton Oklahoma 73507. The restaurant's phone number is 580-492-4087. Reservation is under "Lisa Wilkins" and we have a private room for our group. This is of course optional for you to attend, but it would be great fun if everyone came together for dinner.

  • Wildflowers should be in bloom. Possible wildlife sightings of bison, longhorns, elk, deer, and prairie dogs.
  • The bus tour at WMWR is free. Please consider giving a donation to the refuge when you are there.
  • Everyone attending the tour must ride the bus. There is limited space for parking individual vehicles in some spots on the refuge where the tour may go.
  • Bring food and beverages in a cooler, hiking shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen, binoculars, tripod, camera equipment. Drones are not allowed on the refuge.
  • You are responsible for transportation to and from WMWR and lodging if you plan to stay overnight. Camping is available within WMWR. There are lodgings in Lawton, Medicine Park, and Cache. Book early as this is a popular tourist area, especially in the summer.
