Did you know that the prairie once covered almost half of the United States?  Travelers 200 years ago called it a "sea of grass" because the tall prairie grasses and wildflowers swayed in the breeze like the waves on the ocean.  They said that you could see for miles in all directions.  Stories were passed around that the grass was so tall in some places that it brushed their legs as they rode on their horses!  Come out to the refuge on Saturday, August 19 and learn about our beautiful American prairie through the storytelling of an old Caddo Native American tale, crafts, a prairie investigation activity on the refuge and a fun Buffalo Stomp activity!
